Q: How do I upload my documents and assignment sheets for an online appointment?
A: Please have the assignment sheet from Canvas or your professor’s email before the session begins. You can include them when signing up for an appointment. Attach files by clicking the “Choose File” buttons on the bottom of the appointment window and select the files from your computer. There are three slots so you can also upload your drafts and readings. Only upload Word or .pdf documents. You can also share with your tutor during the tutoring session by copying and pasting into the shared screen or uploading documents.
Q: Do I need to have a microphone/webcam to do online tutoring?
A: Nope! There is a live-chat feature during the session. There, you and your tutor can discuss your work.
Q: What is “Graduate Writing Support”?
A: Asynchronous tutoring happens outside of real time; there may be hours or days between communication between the tutor and tutee. While this may not seem ideal, asynchronous tutoring offers some major benefits. It allows tutors more time to look over your work, which may be beneficial for longer pieces. Asynchronous tutoring also allows for a deep and continuous collaboration between the tutor and tutee. This is ideal for larger projects, such as theses and dissertations. To schedule this form of appointment, select “Graduate Writing Support” when signing into https://rowan.mywconline.com/. After scheduling an appointment, a tutor will get to work within 5 business days, and you will receive feedback via a client report form or in Google Docs. From there, feel free to schedule a synchronous appointment with your tutor to discuss their suggestions. This service is for graduate students working on a 10+ page work only.
Q: Has the amount of hours I can schedule tutoring changed?
A: No. Students are still allowed up to 2 hours a week with a tutor. If you need more time, contact us by email at writingcenter@rowan.edu.
